Lansinoh DiscreetDuo Review (Spoiler: It’s Just an S32 in a Purple Hat)

By Jessica at Genuine Lactation

Let’s talk about the Lansinoh Duo Discreet—a wearable breast pump that I really wanted to love more than I actually do. When this pump first hit the market, I shared my first impressions with Allison over at New Little Life. Now that some time has passed, has my opinion changed?

Short answer: Nope.
It’s still “fine.” It’s a wearable pump that works for a lot of people—probably about 70% of users will find it “good enough.” But when you peel back the label (and the lavender plastic), what you’ve got is a rebranded NCVI S32. And that’s where my love fades fast.

💰 Let's Talk Price (and Branding)

Here’s the thing: the NCVI S32 is available all over Amazon under various names, usually priced somewhere between $50–$80. The Lansinoh Duo Discreet? That one will set you back $160. The difference? A purple button. That’s it. No tech upgrades. No extra features. Just the Lansinoh name.

And I hate to break it to you, but branding alone won’t increase your milk supply. The purple button is not magic.

⚙️ Performance Review

So, is it a bad pump?
No. In fact, it’s surprisingly decent:

  • ✅ Cycle speeds: respectable.

  • ✅ Suction strength: adequate for many.

  • ✅ Flange angle: wide and pretty wearable-friendly.

But if you’re someone who:

  • Needs stronger, sustained suction for exclusive pumping

  • Relies on a smooth, symphony-like pull (looking at you, Medela Symphony users)

  • Demands high motor durability…

Then this isn’t going to meet your needs long-term. And that’s the kicker: motor life.

💀 The Slow Death Problem

Some pumps go out in a blaze of glory. You can tell immediately something’s wrong, and that makes it easier to file a warranty claim and get a replacement. (Looking at you, Willow OG.)

The Duo Discreet doesn’t do that.
It just slowly loses power, little by little, until one day you realize you're pumping for 20 minutes and getting a whole tablespoon of milk.

And yes, Lansinoh will honor their warranty. But the gradual decline makes it hard to prove the pump is even broken. You just assume it’s you. (It’s not. It’s the pump.)

👎 Not Insurance-Worthy

Here’s where I get spicy.
This is not a pump that should be marketed as a “primary” option through insurance. It’s more of a backup or on-the-go wearable you might snag as a second pump—not the heavy-duty motor you’re going to rely on to build or sustain your milk supply.

🧠 TL;DR

  • The Lansinoh Duo Discreet is a rebranded S32—a decent budget wearable you can find cheaper under other names.

  • It’s not a scam, but at $160, it’s definitely overpriced.

  • It performs okay for most people, but not for those with more demanding supply needs.

  • It tends to lose power slowly, making it harder to catch early motor failure.

  • This pump is not appropriate as your sole pump, especially if you're getting it through insurance and expecting it to go the distance.

🛠 Pro Tip:

If you already have this pump, make sure you’re checking your duckbill valves regularly. A worn membrane can mimic a failing motor and really tank your suction performance.
